Weapons Detection System

Beginning in 2022, the New York State University Police Department at Upstate began it's initiative to further enhance the safety of all patients, faculty, staff, students and visitors on our campus. By teaming up with Ballistiglass, University Police has implemented BallistiSCAN systems at major entry points of the hospital and campus to stop weapons from entering in accordance with the SUNY Upstate weapons policy

What to do if...

  • I have a weapon on me walking into the hospital? Return to your vehicle and secure it there.
  • I had a weapon taken from me upon entering the hospital? Call 315-464-4000 and schedule a time to come to the University Police Department to pick it up.
  • I was admitted into the hospital and had a weapon on me? Call 315-464-4000 and schedule a time to come to the University Police Department to pick it up.
  • I had a weapon taken from me and I do not wish to pick it up? Call 315-464-4000 and let us know so we can start the process of having it destroyed.
